Treat everyday as a new adventure

Introducing Vanessa Wester!

I have had the pleasure of being a part of the Short Story Group, created by Vanessa Wester and James Smith and for quite some time now, I have been wanting to interview all of the authors, along with Vanessa and James, but have been procrastinating as usual. 🙂

So today it’s my pleasure to introduce you to Vanessa and tomorrow James will be stopping by to take his turn in the hot seat. 🙂

Please welcome, Vanessa Wester.

Hi Vanessa, how did you come to the idea for the short story group? Or what was the reason you wanted to put a short story group together?

This happened purely by chance. I was “talking” to a short story writer, James Smith, online and decided to try my hand at shorts. If I could write a short story and then find other writers to join us then I could publish an anthology to raise money for charity. Since James had undergone heart surgery and my father has had three heart attacks already it seemed obvious to make the first collection in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

How many collections from the short story group are available now?

Three adult collections and one children’s collection.

All the authors who have taken part are listed on each blog.

Will there be more books published soon?

I am hoping to have enough authors interested in the next collection – deadline is the 31st October 2013, please refer to the adult blog for details.

Can anyone join and submit a story?

Yes. All the guidelines and information can be found under the submissions tab here.

Where can my readers find out more about the short story group?

If there is anything you feel that needs to be added to let people know about the short story group or its books, just add it in.

If you have written a story and want to share it whilst helping good causes then this is the place for you!

Now on to some questions about you as an author.

Tell us about your writing habits. Do you write every day?

Depends on the time of year… I have three children and can only write when I am not looking after them. During school term I have more time.

How long have you been writing?

Since February 2010.

How many books do you have out?

I have released the first two novels of The Evolution Trilogy, the last should be out before Christmas 2013. And a short based on my true story.

FIRST DATE (A Novelette) UK

I’ve read First Date. Loved it. 🙂 I have Hybrid, but as yet haven’t had a chance to read it. Guess I better get busy and catch up.

Do you have a favorite one that you have written? Why?

Hybrid is my debut novel and the one that has taught me the most about writing. I also reminisced a lot on my student days when I wrote it – good times!

What’s next for you? Are you working on another book?

Return, the finale…

What do you do to relax when you aren’t writing?

Swimming, walking, reading, TV (mainly movies)… I also teach swimming voluntarily for a local swimming club, and tutor maths – I find these fun! J

Any other creative pastimes? Crafts, gardening, art, etc.?

I should start drawing and painting again – but there are only so many hours in the day!
