Treat everyday as a new adventure

Diana Murdock visits Wednesday Wonders!

Hi Diana and welcome to Wednesday Wonders! I love the new cover!

I was reading your twitter profile and found you were California grown and

now live in Idaho. Big difference and just to let you know you are missing a huge

California heatwave right now. We have been melting here! 🙂

Let’s see what else you have to surprise us with.

Many people don’t like the name they were given at birth. Do you like your given name? If not, what would you rather have been named?

Great question! My parents named me Deanna and for whatever reason, it never sat well with me, so when I went to college, where no one knew me, I went by the name Diana. It just felt better.

Do you write under your given name or a pseudonym?
I write under my own name. I’ve never really understood the need for a pseudonym, really. These days I think it’s cool to be able to jump genres, so another name doesn’t make sense.

Is there a routine you go through before you begin writing?
I need to get into the zone. I don’t have a routine really. Just having peace and quiet is enough for me, although having a bag of pretzels on hand doesn’t hurt!

 Is there anyone you admire?
Not one person in particular, but in general I gravitate toward people who are calm and not into so much drama. As for authors, I used to have favorites, but these days I am finding so many new ones, all indies, that inspire me.

What do you like to read?
I love a good romance as well as young adult for fiction. For non-fiction, I read anything metaphysical.

Do you have a favorite author?
That’s a tough one. I have a lot of favorite authors and the list is growing.

Does it have to be quiet when you write or do you like background noise? TV, music, etc.
It depends on where I am at in the process. Outlining, general writing, music in the background works for me. When I need to get detailed and “feel” what the character is feeling, I need quiet.

Beach or mountains?
Definitely beach.

 What inspires you?
The ocean and the stars.

Favorite snack food?
Pretzels, malt balls, and yogurt.

Doesn’t matter who we are, man, woman, child, all of us get freaked out by something. Spiders, mice, snakes, bugs, geese, etc. What freaks you out?
I’ve been the spider and bug killer in my house for so long, those don’t bother me if there is just one or two, but a mass quantity of those things, of any insect for that matter, totally freaks me out.

What is the most unusual job you’ve ever had?
All of my jobs have been secretarial oriented so nothing unusual, but I did land a job as an attorney’s assistant once and I had no clue what I was doing! I’m not sure how I got hired in the first place! Needless to say, that didn’t last long.

I read on another blog, that a writer was working on 10 novels at once. Confusing! Do you work on one or multiple novels at a time?
So far, I’ve only done one at a time, but I’m thinking I might try two after the outline stage. I’ll do a sequel of Souled and I’ve been anxious to start a women’s fiction that has been brewing in my head for two years now.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I’m a cardio-junkie and I love reading (I often read while running on the treadmill!) I love hanging out on the beach or at the lake.

And last question…Do you have anything new coming out that you’d like to share with us?

I just released Souled, a young adult paranormal. It is about a high school student in a small Idaho town that buys a soul online, not really understanding what he is in for. It’s available in ebook format, and  print version.

Thanks, Karen, for the great questions!

And Thank you Diana for joining us here at Wednesday Wonders. I wish you much success with “Souled”
