Treat everyday as a new adventure

“R” is for Radishes!

I was going to post a review today, but got sidetracked, so I decided to share a few pictures about one of the easiest to grow vegetables.

Radishes are high in fiber as well as vitamin C,  phosphorus and zinc. Who knew you could pack so much good into such a small package. They are crunchy, have a tangy taste, and are great in salads.

I plant radishes every year. They are a family favorite. I planted some this past November since the weather was so mild, but it wasn’t really radish growing weather. Even though they were tasty, they were slow growing which made them tough.

The nice thing about the seed plant is you can harvest seeds to plant next year and don’t have to worry about any chemicals.

And you can also use the seeds to grow healthy radish sprouts to use in salads and they are great in sandwiches, too!

The year before last I had quite a few of the seed pods.

And I had laid the plants on a table in the sun to dry.

Imagine my surprise about six months later when what I had thought to be weeds was actually white icicle radishes growing wild.

They were strong in flavor and quite tough, but radishes just the same!

Cool! I’m also really into eating radishes, even though I don’t plant them myself (yet!) 🙂

    • You should plant them! My sons have gotten to the point where they don’t want to eat the store bought ones. Homegrown flavor is so much better. And they pretty much grow themselves. 🙂
