Teasers of Things to Come!

Throughout this year I will be working on a book featuring short stories and poems from pictures that I have taken, paintings my oldest son has done,  and the word prompts from my writer’s group. I want it to depict the four seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter. So I thought I’d give you a little teaser of one of the stories and will post others about once a month. Ready?

Her Fate is His

     She stood on the sand and looked out across the bay. Waiting, wondering if he would show, she closed her eyes and felt the cool salt air brush the bangs from her forehead.

   He walked up and stood beside her. “Did you bring it?”

   She opened her eyes and looked up at him. His six foot two frame towered over her, making her feel small and helpless. Trying to hide the tremble in her voice, she whispered, “Yes” and stared at her own reflection in his dark glasses.

    “Let me see it.”

    “No. Not until you tell me where he is.”

    With a look of contempt he pulled a gloved hand out of his jacket pocket and pointed towards the pier. “He’s right over there.”

    “You did this on purpose. You kept me waiting until the fog rolled in. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to see him.”

    He avoided her gaze and stared out across the water.  “Let me ask you this, Are you sure this is what you want?”

Now that’s what you call a teaser! And if you want to see how it turns out, you’ll have to wait for the book, which I hope to have out by December 21, 2013 and by then I’ll have decided whether to leave it in the past tense or put it in present tense.
