Treat everyday as a new adventure

Wednesday Wonders Welcomes the Sexy and Hot Writer Eden Baylee!

Hi Eden and welcome back to Karen’s Different Corners. We had such a wild and fun time promoting Spring Into Summer here a couple of months ago, that I thought this time we’d sit down and have just an intimate one to one interview.

Many people don’t like the name they were given at birth. Do you like your given name? If not, what would you rather have been named?

I like the name I was given at birth. It’s a classic. I also like the name I chose to write under.

Is there a routine you go through before you begin writing?

I check email before anything else. I’m a stickler for responding to all emails before the end of the business day, and my business day is extremely long.

Is there anyone you admire?

Yes, many people. The thing I admire most is intelligence. I don’t care what your lot is in life – you can be a millionaire, politician, or a janitor. If you have conviction of your beliefs and are able to express sound reasoning, then you’ve earned my admiration. I may not necessarily agree with you, but that’s what makes the world go round.

What do you like to read?

The list is endless — biographies, thrillers, literary fiction, newspapers, menus, road signs, and more.

Do you have a favorite author?

Charles Bukowski.

Does it have to be quiet when you write or do you like background noise? TV, music, etc.

I need complete silence. Ambient noise is fine.

Beach or mountains?

Both.

Beach, because I love the heat and the ocean. Mountains, because I trekked through Nepal over twenty years ago and fell in love there.

What inspires you?

Men, women, friendship, love, food, sex, music, politics—life in general.

Favorite snack food?

Probably something salty like potato chips, though I rarely snack.

Doesn’t matter who we are, man, woman, child, all of us get freaked out by something. Spiders, mice, snakes, bugs, geese, etc. What freaks you out?

Ha! Who the heck is scared of geese? I wracked my brain on this one, and honestly, I couldn’t think of anything. I grew up playing with insects and bugs and animals don’t scare me.

Karen: Ha! Me! A gaggle of geese surrounding me scares the heck out of me! LOL

Most of the time, people and the stupid things they do freak me out more than anything. You only need to turn on reality TV any day of the week to see what I mean.

What is the most unusual job you’ve ever had?

I sold duct-cleaning services over the phone. You can imagine the jokes.

I read on another blog, that a writer was working on 10 novels at once. Confusing! Do you work on one or multiple novels at a time?

I’ve read that about James Patterson, though he has an army of ghostwriters
to help him. Like you Karen, I’d be confused too. It’d almost be like each book
was interchangeable with plot/characters/setting.

I work on multiple projects, but only one book at a time.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I love spending time with people I care about. Food is usually involved, maybe wine and scotch too.

And last question…Do you have anything new coming out that you’d like to share with us?

I have several things on the go, but promotion for Spring into Summer has kept me busy and will continue to do so for a while longer.

My next novel will be a full-length one, not an anthology of short stories. It will be a challenge. The goal is to release it next year.
Thanks SO much Karen for your great questions, and for the interview on your wonderful blog. I truly appreciate it.

eden

Eden you are more then welcome to stop by anytime. I wish you much success with “Spring Into Summer” and I look forward to your full length novel!

  1. Loved the interview! I’m with both of you regarding the geese. Who the heck is scared of geese? Ha! Reality TV is definitely something that gets the stomach turning sometimes too. I pretty much avoid most “reality” TV anyway.

Eden, I laughed out loud… oh wait… I mean, I LOL’d when I read the things you most like to read. Road signs! LOL!

XOXO to both of you. 😉

A hopeful hello — wonderful interview. Loved the questions and the answers. I can’t wait to read your first novel, eden. Geese are scary, especially those Canadian Geese — Zippy and Kipling bark at them lol

    • Justin, thank you for your comment. As for Canada’s national bird – the only thing that’s scary about them is they crap almost every 10 minutes. It’s not really scary, just messy 😉

    • Hi Justin and thank you for stopping by. I’m scared of most feathered creatures! Guess it has something to do with being chased by the family’s pet chicken when I was little 🙂

      • See Karen? Now I understand why you might have a fear of geese. I had pet chickens too – actually two of them, but I was the one who did the chasing (hahah)

        How are you tonight Eden?

        Like

      • Goose poo all over the lawns is mighty unfortunate — makes days crappy. Being chased by chickens is no great day either; the moment is unforgettable though. If you let the birds peck you, you have to watch out for chirpies, and that’s a canarial disease (wait for it) . . . and that’s untweetable.

  5. A gang or gaggle of anything can be threatening. Surprised that you are a Bukowski fan…You learn something new everyday. Nice interview. Keep up the good work!

      • With a loaf of bread in your hand geese can get nasty…it’s like being on a street in East New York with a handful of gold watches. I have been attacked by swans on my Kayak…not a pretty site. There I am swinging at the beautiful bird with my paddle while the staring eyes of boaters look upon me with disgust, kicking up a wake to sink my craft. I just want to scream out “He Started it”…”Help”.

Hi Eden and Karen! Great interview.
Eden, reality TV freaks me out too, along with the Jerry Springer Show. (Yikes!) 🙂

    Like

    • Hi Casey! Haven’t heard about Jerry Springer in a long time. Is he still on? There’s a reason I only watch TV about once a week, if that. Thanks for visiting me here, hon.

  7. Terrific interview, though I’m with Eden, a gaggle of Geese doesn’t scare me, doesn’t even sound scary, just a little loony… Now if they were called a strangle of geese I’d have to go and murder some crows…. but I digress. Great job here, thanks for the look into Eden and her writing process. Looking forward to that novel!

  8. Well, as usual, I’m late. Karen, you made a great choice in interviewing Eden! I learn something new about Eden everytime a see her on the web. Eden, you used to sell things to clean a duck? I would have bought that from you.
Loved the interview and great questions!

    • Ha Dannie, I knew you ‘d love that crazy duck job I had.

Between Karen’s fear of geese and chickens, and Wyatt’s loony crows, this interview is for the birds!

  11. Terrific interview!

I don’t like my actual name, so a penname was essential early on.

Eden’s a good name to choose. It’s a name I’m using for a character in my book. Though in her case, she’s a villain.

    • Hi William, I think Eden is a great villain name too 😉
